I have “played” around with watercolors in other art projects, but here is my first flower done in watercolor. Now, I guess I should do a study of how to use watercolors.
It was done on a 5″ x 7″ paper using Derwent Watercolor pencils and a water brush.
Hi Sarah! Good to see your new watercolour flower! Using watercolour pencils must be good fun as you have good control when drawing as with a normal pencil but it does offer the fluidity of watercolours too! I think I need to have go with these!

I did draw an outline in pencil first. Remember with all coloured pencils you need a fine tip, so get a good pencil sharpener.

This is so important indeed! A bad sharpener can actually ruin my mood as I am not able to achieve sharp edges!

Sarah – I like it. I think you just did your first study on how to use water colors. Diving in head first is just as good a way to start. And checking alternate theories is okay too. Whether it is the 2nd or 25th try. Enjoy the experience.
